1 January – 31 January 2014, "Olympia", exhibition by Frauke Stegmann at Gallery Club 2000/Disco of our Youth, hosted by OMBA Gallery, Windhoek, Namibia. A record of nocturnal, crepuscular and daylight occurrences of naturally inhabited biodiversity, loosely noticed in the suburb “Olympia” at the edge of an expanding city in Windhoek, Namibia, during 2012 and 2013.  Mixture of memory, mythology and fact.  This exhibition looks at the role of archiving/data collection and the individual/citizen {in this case archiving biodiversity occurring in a certain area}, and at the role of language in a digital age where opportunity and access to self-publishing is democratic - can a "people's language" or "folk language" be looked at in a non-discriminate way as representing the individual moment of activity as opposed to a scientific practice. In the future, urban sprawl will have merged cities in Namibia such as Windhoek and Okahandja. At this moment we are a witness to the "look" of the present moment. Future generations will have a different visual urban/nature reality. This exhibition records everyday biodiversity at the periphery of a changing visual reality. Book/exhibition catalogue available at www.club-2000-disco-of-our-youth.org soon or go to SHOP
